Ahmedabad: Spelling more trouble for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the state’s High Court on Wednesday issued a contempt notice to his government for delaying compensation to 56 people whose shops were destroyed during the communal riots of 2002.
According to reports, the High Court slammed the BJP government for failing to comply with its order, passed last year, related to compensation of the shop owners.
The court asked the Modi government to explain why it has still not handed over the money to those affected.Last week, the High Court ordered the government to fund the repair of nearly 600 religious buildings that were targeted during the riots, the worst in independent India.
